Position Status: Three-Quarter-Time

The Psychiatrist will provide consultation with Clinicians on individual clients, individual therapy sessions and prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications. This position is responsible for observing policies, procedures, and safeguards to protect the privacy of health information in compliance with the HIPAA Privacy (Privacy Rule). This position will travel between all of Denali Family Services Locations.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • In conjunction with a comprehensive mental health assessment, assess and diagnose a client’s psychiatric condition.
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments, prescribe and monitor the use and prescription of psychotropic medications.
  • Participate as a clinical team member in the client’s treatment planning and reviews.
  • Complete client medical record documentation and other required forms for each service provided, billable and non-billable, and incidents.
  • Consult with program supervisors and employees concerning client treatment services.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, committees and trainings as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have a medical degree from an accredited medical school and completed a fully qualified residency in psychiatry. Current State of Alaska Medical License. Board certified in American Psychiatry and Neurology.

Preferred: In addition to minimum qualifications, Board certified in child psychiatry and experience in community psychiatry and/or with chronic mental illness.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, sound clinical and therapeutic skills and the ability to accurately document events, provide detailed records for clients and work with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to maintain positive professional working relationships and to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Organized, efficient, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and good written communication.
  • Ability to ensure client and employee confidentiality as prescribed by agency policy and federal law
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications and possess the ability to learn other software applications
  • Knowledge and understanding all agency protocol, policy, procedure, plans program requirements.
  • Ability to act decisively and with fairness
