Maxine retired with 30 years of experience in the field of education, both as classroom teacher and administrator. The last 19 years she was employed by Anchorage School District. She has extensive experience in curriculum development, grant writing, and staff development training. During her tenure with ASD and as supervisor of the Bilingual/Multicultural Education Program she was director of a program providing service to over 9,000 English language learners in grades K-12. She was also instrumental in the acquisition of 3 federally funded grants. Maxine participated at the state level in developing frameworks based on content standards, and in providing professional development through courses and summer institutes.
Maxine is enthusiastic about participating on the Board of Denali Family Services. A tour of the facilities was a revelation of the high quality staff focused on fundamental services they are able to provide to a high-needs population.
